Grid-Supportive Green Hydrogen with PEM Electrolysers in PowerFactory

How PEM electrolysers can provide flexible demand and frequency support in renewable, low-inertia power systems using DIgSILENT PowerFactory.

Green hydrogen research increasingly treats electrolysers as controllable grid assets rather than passive loads. A PEM electrolyser can modulate active power quickly, coordinate with BESS and renewable generation, and support frequency performance in low-inertia systems.

System concept

A useful research system includes renewable generation, a grid or microgrid equivalent, PEM electrolyser, optional BESS and supervisory control. The electrolyser receives a power reference based on available renewable energy and grid-support requirements.
